At last, our own little piece of Spain! However, it’s not where we imagined it would be when we lived in Madrid a few years back. Then, we thought we might settle in our beloved ex-hometown or the wonderful Galicia region north of Portugal, by the turquoise waters of Mallorca, or in the tiny alleys of Almuñécar, where our friends used to stay. After many years of travel and apartment viewing, we decided to make our home in Spain in a place that would welcome us even when we are old and clumsy and where it would be easy to stroll down to the nearby grocery store or — if we felt like it — take an exciting road trip through the whole country.
 

Our Spanish home away from home is in Los Boliches, Fuengirola. You can reach Los Boliches easily by a local train from the airport. The same train will also take you to see the sights in Malaga, and the tickets will not cost more than a few euros.

Something for everyone
 

In the neighborhood, you may bump into more Finns like us (the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran church, with its up-to-date premises and library, are nearby) or people from all corners of the world — and from Spain, too! The market hall is a stone’s throw away, and the loveliest flower stall in the neighborhood and the grocery stores are just around the corner. Tread in the natives’ footsteps, join them at the local tapas bars, and enjoy listening to their Andalusian Spanish, or join your countrymen. When in Andalusia, do as the Andalusians do — or keep your own company. The choice is yours. 
 

A neighborhood with all the amenities
 

All services are nearby: 600 m to the beach, 200 m to the grocery stores, 200–500 m to the

restaurants, 250 m to the local train, and 2 km to the center of Fuengirola. The small local café will treat you to tasty breakfasts and the best coffee in the world.
 

If you prefer to stay at home, don’t worry: there’s no need to leave the comfort of your little Andalusian nest — just take it easy and enjoy your stay in your home away from home. Welcome, amigos!
